Building AI for Our Communities: Useful, Accessible, and Safe

As AI continues to advance rapidly, the key question is no longer just what AI can do—but how we ensure that the AI applications we build meaningfully serve our communities. ​This session brings together practitioners, researchers, and ecosystem partners to explore what it means to design and deploy AI systems that are useful, accessible, and safe in real-world contexts. Beyond leveraging open-source resources such as SEA-LION models, we will also explore how communities can contribute to open-source efforts to ensure AI better reflects local needs, languages, and cultural contexts, and how we can bridge the gap between innovation and societal impact. Behind SEA-LION: Pushing the Boundaries of Southeast Asian LLM capabilities

Join us for an exclusive behind-the-scenes look at how the SEA-LION team builds and advances large language models for Southeast Asia. In this session, you’ll hear directly from the engineers who trained SEA-LION models, including the latest SEA-LION v3 and v4 built on SOTA models - Gemma, Llama and Qwen models, and get an inside view of the full development pipeline—from data pipeline and large-scale pre-training to post-training, model alignment, and real-world applications. ​Attendees will also gain practical insights into the key technical decisions, trade-offs, and lessons learned in creating high-quality, regionally grounded LLMs to push the boundaries of performance and usability across Southeast Asian languages.

5th Language Summit

The 5th Languages Summit will be a landmark gathering of AI pioneers from across Southeast Asia and India, coming together to address some of the most critical challenges in AI model training. Co-hosted by AI Singapore and Google in Bangalore on 22 July 2025, the summit aims to confront Western-centric biases, data scarcity, and infrastructure hurdles through the lens of regional needs and realities. This year’s summit will spotlight innovation across three key themes: democratizing AI access, developing culturally informed evaluation methods, and advancing the next generation of large language models and AI agents.
